Oil Expropriation

With the industry coming back from a 'bust', things were bound to happen. In Mexico, Mexico didn't own one company in the oil business. This meant that the companies didn't really have to abide by labor laws. They got away with this legally and illegally. The workers were fed up, so they created The Confederation of Mexican Workers and plotted the creation of several contracts for each company. Before this got underway, the justice system intervened. The court delegated that the companies had to pay $1.8 million to make up for lost wages during the strike. President Lazaro Cardenas intervened and announced that Mexico's government will monopolize the entire industry, meaning they will be entitled to looking for it, the production process, refining, and distribution. Doing this, output increased by about 6% each year between 1938 and 1971.
